The WELL trend continues growing

If there’s one thing we see every day, it’s that our customers’ awareness has changed. Sustainability is their priority, and they do not understand it as a trend or a passing fad. This way of thinking is due to the concern for addressing climate change and improving the energy efficiency of buildings. We all want to do our job to curb negative impacts. But it isn’t enough to think about it or to say it in words. We have to show that when we take action, we are also sustainable. In recent years, the WELL certification (WELL Building Standard), has developed at great speed, becoming the first certification worldwide focused on the health and welfare of humans. That’s why our fabrics also contribute to the achievement of recognitions like this one, in the field of sustainable building.

What is WELL certification?

Previously there were other certificates that also valued some aspects of sustainability, but WELL certification focuses exclusively on the users of the building. Instead of measuring the impact of the building on the environment, it measures the impact on people’s health and wellbeing. In fact, it is also a dynamic scoring system for buildings and communities that identifies, measures and analyses all the characteristics that impact on the health and well-being of the occupants. Seven areas are monitored: air, water, food, light, exercise, comfort and mind.

On February 5th, the second Wellference in Spain took place, the most important professional day of the WELL certificate that we could attend to know all the news. One of the good news is that our market is growing and ocuppies the third place in Europe with 78 WELL registrations.

Why should WELL certify a building?

According to the WHO, health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not simply the absence of disease. Therefore, we have to take care of our bodies constantly. On the other hand, we spend a lot of time in our homes or work spaces. And this has an impact on our health, well-being and productivity. If we manage to make the place where we are a welcoming and healthy space, we will also notice an improvement in our mood and even our physical health. Therefore, obtaining WELL certification is an indication that our building is healthy and sustainable, as both qualities are directly related.

Did you know that Spain has entered the global top-10 in sustainable buildings? This is good news thanks to this change in mentality and the large number of seals such as Leed, Breeam or Well that certify the sustainability of the building.
